Pictures From May 19 Celebrations Disturbed AKP

Photographs taken at the sports events in Manisa during May 19 celebrations of Youth and Sports Day have disturbed AKP for being “immodest”.
Bulent Kar, the AKP Mayor of Manisa said that during his visit in Ankara right after the May 19 celebrations, he met with AKP officials who expressed their disapproval of the outfits that the young female gymnasts wore for the steps and aerobics show. Kar said that Manisa MPs Bulent Arinc and Huseyin Tanriverdi told him that the outfits worn by students of Celal Bayar University (CBU) School of Physical Education were inappropriate, and disturbing for many in Ankara, and that they hoped this would be corrected in next year’s celebrations.
President of CBU Prof. Semra Oncu reacted to mayor’s words by saying that the outfits and the dances were modern and appropriate. She added that their team’s performance has been the favorite show of Manisa’s citizens.
Source: Milliyet, Turkey, May 23, 2008
