In Friday Sermon, Ayatollah Jannati Says Enemies Desperate Over Iran's Nuclear Program

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati

Tehran substitute Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said in his second Friday sermon that Iran's peaceful nuclear energy had brought despair and failure for the enemies of Islam and of the Islamic Revolution.

Jannati told worshipers, "As long as you have such a leader (Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei), you will be entitled to peaceful use of nuclear energy."
Referring to the U.S.-Iraq military agreement, he said it would not work, and added, "The pact the U.S. seeks in Iraq will not be in force, as (renowned cleric) Ayatollah Sistani has said: 'As long as I am alive, I will not let the agreement be implemented.'"

He added that the Iraqi people should know that God will save them, and should not fear the U.S.

Jannati also advised the U.S. to end the occupation of Iraq and warned that the agreement would divide government and people.
