A March 7 Tehran University symposium of Iranian political activists and intellectuals criticized Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's use of the Holocaust in his foreign policy. Dissident Ahmad Zidabadi said that the Jews should not be at the top of Iran's foreign policy agenda, and added that overall the Jews had not had a problem with Iran throughout history, only with Europe. He said that there was no need to use the Holocaust to ram Israel, which would have come into existence even without it. The deputy chairman of Iran's Parliamentary Committee for National Security and Foreign Policy also criticized Ahmadinejad's foreign policy, saying that unfortunately, bringing up the Holocaust had cost Iran dearly.
