In a speech during a visit to Ardakan, in the Yazd province, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared that Iran would not heed the U.N. Security Council resolutions, which he called a tool of the West and valueless, and would continue to develop nuclear technology despite them: "[The West] came and set up an organization called the Security Council, and said that this council was being put in charge based on world security. But... you have seen that it [itself] is a tool for destroying the rights of the peoples, and for justifying the crimes of some of the superpowers. Except for the support of the countries of the arrogance, this council does no particular work... "The aggressive powers want to prevent the Iranian people from its right [to develop nuclear technology], but they cannot stop the movement of the Iranian people... [The West] tells us that if we don't submit they will place economic sanctions on us. Hasn't there been an economic boycott for the past 27 years?... You enacted sanctions against us [but] you have seen that we have become a nuclear state..." Source: ISNA, Iran, March 15, 2007
