In a June 17 blog post, a group of soldiers from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that it would stand with the people and would not serve "those who betray the vote of the people," who "seek authority and monopoly."
The group also asked the Basij to join the defense of the people and to lay down its arms.
Following is a translation of the blog post:
"As God is our witness, we will not permit those who seek authority and monopoly to trample the blood of the martyrs of the [Islamic] Revolution... despite the danger to our own lives.
We stand fast against those who betray the vote of the people, and we will not permit them to wash their hands in the blood of the martyrs [of the current demonstrations]. We will not permit a few corrupt commanders wearing the sacred uniform of the IRGC to spill the blood of the people.
"We strongly urge our brothers in the Basij to distance themselves from the rioting and to lay down their weapons and to join the people."
