Syrian Ambassador: We Aren't Enemies Of U.S.

Syrian Ambassador to the U.S. Imad Mustapha said to Peace Now activists that Syria wanted the U.S. to play a role in advancing the peace process with Israel, and would give guarantees if necessary.

He said, "The Syrians are not the enemies of Israel, but what took place during the time of the Bush administration has no precedent."

Michel Aoun: No Need To Relinquish Weapons Of Resistance Before Comprehensive Solution

Lebanese opposition leader Gen. Michel Aoun has said that Lebanon must not relinquish the weapons of the resistance or a single point of strength before all issues regarding Israel are resolved, including the Palestinian right of return and the issue of their settling in Lebanon.

Lebanese Daily On Organizational Changes In Hizbullah

The Lebanese daily Al-Safir reports that Hizbullah is examining and implementing a series of organizational changes, as required by the developments following the 2006 Lebanon war.

In this framework, the paper reports, a separate portfolio has been established for Arab relations, in addition to the international relations portfolio already in existence.

Hizbullah will also define, in a new political document, its vision and its stances towards local, regional, and international issues.

A committee headed by political bureau chief Ibrahim Amin Al-Sayyed is to prepare a draft proposal, to be submitted for approval by the organization's leadership.

French-British Proposal: Postpone Arrest Of Sudan President

Sudanese Foreign Minister Ding Alor has conveyed to Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir a French-British proposal for dealing with the crisis between Sudan and the International Criminal Court.

The proposal includes measures for uniting the armed movements in Darfur and for consolidating a joint vision for resolving the crisis there, for holding a conference in London between the rival sides, and for postponing the demand for Al-Bashir's arrest.

Sayyef Al-Islam Al-Qaddafi Acts For Reconciliation With Oppositionists Abroad

Sayyef Al-Islam, the son of Libyan Leader Mu'ammar Al-Qaddafi, has initiated a "semi-official" reconciliation between Libya and Libyan oppositionists living abroad, with the aim of encouraging them to return to Libya.

The initiative followed Sayyef Al-Islam's success in promoting a reconciliation between the regime and the jihadist Libyan Islamic Fighting Group.

Internal Criticism In Hamas On Proceedings Against Fatah

Several Palestinian Legislative Council members from Hamas have harshly criticized the Hamas regime in Gaza over its closure of institutions and associations belonging to Fatah in the city.

They also criticized operations by Hamas's military wing the 'Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades against Fatah, following the bombing on the Gaza coast several days ago in which six Hamas operatives were killed.

Top Al-Qaeda Commander Condemns Reconciliation of Religions, Calls on Muslims to Kill Saudi King

On July 28, 2008, Islamist websites posted an Al-Sahab video message by Al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan Abu Yahya al-Libi, titled "Reconciliation of Religions." The message came in the wake of the three-day Interfaith Dialogue Conference, held in Madrid two weeks previously, that was initiated by Saudi King 'Abdallah bin 'Abd Al-'Aziz.

Jumblatt To Nasrallah: Turn Over New Leaf

In an interview with Al-Jadid TV, Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt called on Hizbullah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah to turn over a new leaf, and said that in the past three years the March 14 Forces had deviated from their Arab principles, which led to their isolation.

He also called for establishing special relations with Syria, in accordance with the Taif Agreement.

According to Jumblatt, the continuum of resistance [against Israel] continued from 'Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam to Nasrallah, through his father Kamal Jumblatt and the late Egyptian president Gamal Abd Al-Nasser.
