Sultan Al-Burkani, senior official in Yemen's ruling party, has said that Iran is helping the Shi'ite Al-Houthi rebels with their struggle in the country, and that there is no doubt that Iran is involved in this rebellion.
Al-Burkani made the statements in light of the renewals of armed clashes between Houthi rebels and armed Yemeni forces, and after Yemen President Ali Abdallah Saleh accused Hizbullah of training and arming the Houthis.
According to Al-Burkani, the Iranians seek to send a message to the international community about their presence in Lebanon, Bahrain, and, recently, Yemen (see also "Yemenite President: Hizbullah Training Houthi Rebels," "In Yemen, Al-Houthi Rebels Commander Says: We'll Honor Ceasefire."
