Mousavi: I Will Not Give In; Peaceful Protests Must Continue

In a statement published June 25, 2009, Mir Hossein Mousavi stated that he had no intention of abandoning the struggle, in spite of the press campaign against him.

He reiterated his allegations about "sweeping election fraud" and persecution of the protesters, adding that those responsible for this continue to spread lies and to blame him for their own crimes.

He also accused Ahmadinejad and his followers of propelling the country towards chaos, and called on his supporters to keep their protests peaceful and within the confines of the law.

This, in order to avoid falling into the trap set by Ahmadinejad and his followers, who are trying to present this popular protest movement as unlawful and as allied with foreign elements.

A website affiliated with Mousavi's circles reports that 70 Iranian university professors were arrested after meeting with Mousavi on June 24, 2009, and have been taken to an unknown location.
