Iranian Supreme National Security Council secretary Saeed Jalili called Tehran-Damascus ties strategic, at a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mu'alem.
During the meeting, Jalili also reiterated that the two countries must take "the initiation to be the axis of more constructive relations in the region."
"Common interests and threats require regional countries to make a more serious move to form regional and strategic ties," he was reported as saying.
Al-Mu'alem said, "Indeed, regional countries are engineers of a new Middle East and do not need instructions of cross-regional powers in this regard."
