Iranian Leader Calls For Scientific Leap

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei yesterday underlined the necessity for stronger efforts by Iranian elites and scholars to promote the country's scientific level.

"The outstanding progresses made during the last three decades are not satisfactory, and we are standing at a far distance from the world's scientific peaks," Khamenei said, addressing a large congregation of university deans and authorities here in Tehran.

"Closing this gap requires doubled, continued and inexhaustible efforts by the (Iranian) elites, scientists, intellectuals and university students," the Supreme Leader advised.

Reminding the significant and exemplary role of universities, specially the Tehran University, in Iran's scientific progress, Ayatollah Khamenei called for a "50-year envision plan to accelerate the country's progress," and underlined that Iran can reach the world's highest scientific levels through such planning.

The leader stressed that such a planning "can bring Iran out of scientific captivity while deepening and expanding man's knowledge".
