Iranian-Printed, Anti-Al-Maliki Posters Appear in Basra

Security authorities in Basra, Iraq's second largest city, have arrested a group of youngsters pasting on walls in the city anti-Al-Maliki posters, believed to have been printed in Iran.

The posters call on voters to refrain from voting for Al-Maliki's State of Law slate, and to support the Shi'a-based, pro-Iranian Iraqi National Coalition.

The posters also carry a statement allegedly attributed to Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani, with his photo on the poster, indicating his opposition to Al-Maliki.

[Al-Sistani is on record as saying that he does not support any slate or party in the elections.]
