Human Rights Watch yesterday called on Iran to take all necessary measures to protect civilians in the Kurdish villages in northern Iraq.
The call came in the wake of shelling and other military action by the Iranian army.
The organization said that Iranian attacks against the Kurdish Free Life Group (PJAK) have been accelerating since the end of May, causing the displacement of 500 families and the wounding of unknown number of villagers, and the death of a young girl.
Iraqi villagers maintain that Iran's military action is aimed at forcing villagers on the border to leave their homes and farms, in order to create a population-free zone on the border.
