Iran Judiciary Authority Official: Stoning Is Acceptable As Punishment

In an interview that was censored by Iranian authorities, Iranian Judiciary Authority human rights director Mohammad Javad Larijani told the Iranian news agency ISNA that the punishment of stoning, customary in Iran, does not contravene international covenants to which Iran is signatory.

He said that human rights activists in Iran are "deceivers trying to fight the regime."
