Iranian Majlis speaker Ali Larijani said June 19 that if the U.S. made another miscalculation, Iran would change the conditions of the U.S. in the region.
Speaking at a gathering of the Islamic Coalition Party, Mo'talefeh, at the parliamentary palace, Larijani said, "The Americans assumed that the occupation of Iraq would be an easy job, and that the Iraqi nation would back them up... The U.S. assumed it could raise 10 democracy towers in Iraq [to] overshadow both Iran and Syria, but the Islamic Republic of Iran's proper strategy in the region made the Americans wonder what they had should do in Iraq."
He added, "They intend to take advantage of the opportunity created by their previous conduct, but they must know that another miscalculation will lead them to fall into another [quagmire] in which the more they struggle for release the harder they get entrapped."
He reiterated, "If the Americans make another mistake in the region they will be faced with champions who would urge them to wrap up their stuff from the region and flee."
Larijani said that "wisdom-based resistance" for safeguarding the revolution is the "topmost principal observed by the Iranians," adding, "Not only the fundamentalists, but also the entire groups are aligned for safeguarding the national interests."
He pointed out that the jihadi forces of Hizbullah and Hamas are the pioneers of change in today's world, adding, "Interpreting the moves made within the Islamic world as terrorism under such conditions that the Islamic society enjoys the pride of having jihadi combatants is a grave mistake, since those groups are the soldiers of Almighty Allah."
The previous day, Larijani said that if Washington did not rectify its stance toward Tehran, it would "learn a lesson the hard way."
