An apology by Saudi journalist Hamza Kashgari over his controversial tweets about the Prophet Muhammad has failed to dampen a Salafi campaign against him, prompting him to flee his home country.

The issue has turned from a spontaneous reaction into an organized campaign run by a group of Salafis, which has included death threats.

According to earlier reports, he was to be released January 22, but it was decided to postpone his exit from prison.
