The ruling AKP members criticize the republican CHP for opposing the law which will end the trial of civilians in military courts and will pave the way for trying military personnel at the civil courts. Haluk Ozdalga, who is the head of the Environmental Commission in the parliament and who is a member of the ruling CHP, said that this law is one of the most important steps for democracy in Turkey.
Ozdalga argued that the republican CHP tries to prevent the strengthening of democracy in Turkey. He said that the CHP supporters are like the supporters of fascist dictator Franco who opposed the democratization reforms in Spain. Ozdalga said that he believes Turkey will complete its democratization process although there are people who oppose it like the CHP.
