Turkey’s Jewish Community Unhappy About ADL’s Change of Policy
The Jewish Community of Turkey issued a written statement to express their regret at ADL’s change of position regarding the Armenian tragedy of 1915. The statement read, “We find it difficult to understand the recent developments affecting in the U.S. public opinion that resulted in the sudden change of opinion among some Jewish organizations. “We would like to stress that the news reports that begin with the term “Jews” in local websites may mislead the public, whereas this change in position reflects only the views of some American Jewish organizations.” In the statement the Turkish Jewish Community stressed that the community endorses the Turkish position that this matter should be debated at academic level with full access to the archives of all concerned parties, and that parliaments are not the appropriate platforms for finding the truth about historical events. The statement added, “Our state institutions are well aware of our long time efforts to defend Turkey’s interests and theses, and our efforts will continue.” Source: Zaman, The New Anatolian, Turkey, August 23, 2007
