CHP’s Ozyurek: In A Country Ruled By Law, Attempts Should Not Be Made To Influence Judicial Process By Changing The Laws

Deputy Chairman of CHP Mustafa Ozyurek said that the judicial process has begun regarding the case filed by the Chief Prosecutor demanding the closure of AKP according to the present laws, and that no attempts should be made to influence this process. Ozyurek said, “There is a legal process. Unfortunately a campaign has been launched to stop this process, to intimidate the prosecutor, as well as the members of the Constitutional Court that will decide the case. Despite the fact that it is a crime to express opinions that would influence an ongoing case, some people are going beyond expressing opinions, and are outright threatening members of judiciary. It is apparent that these people have not internalized the meaning of democracy and the rule of law. Receiving many votes does not give a political party license to break the laws and the Constitution. Instead of attacking and intimidating the prosecutor, AKP should answer to the charges, and say all those things the say in city squares and TV screens during their lawful defense in court. They want judiciary not to function, prosecutors not to do their work and Constitutional Court not to carry out its duties. All they think about is how to limit the authority of the Prosecutor, how to make it impossible for the Constitutional Court to decide this case, how to make the case moot. And they want all of this in the name of “democracy”. In a country ruled by law these things are unthinkable". Source: Vatan, Turkey, March 16, 2008
