Cheney In Turkey Made Two Demands And Gave Support On Two Issues

U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney met on Monday with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff General Yasar Buyukanit. The issues of Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and the terrorist PKK dominated the meetings.

According to Turkish media reports Cheney requested from Turkey to send combatant troops to Afghanistan and establish good relations with Iraqi Kurds. Cheney also affirmed U.S.'s support to Turkey on the issue of terrorist organization PKK and made a promise to establish an energy partnership with Turkey. Turkish leaders told him that for now Turkey would not send more troops to Afghanistan.

PM Erdogan said on Tuesday that the Vice-President had not asked Turkey to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan from the current level of 1200 soldiers there.
