Turkey's High Constituional Court decided on Monday (today) to accept the lawsuit against the ruling AKP demanding its closure. The lawsuit, which could last up to a year, raises concerns over a prolonged political uncertainty in Turkey. The 11 judges of the Constitutional Court agreed unanimously to accept the indictment against AKP filed by the country's top prosecutor on March 14, the court's deputy chairman Osman Paksut told reporters. The EU said it took "note" of the development.
While the court decided unanimously to hear the case against AKP, the decision to accept the indictment against President Abdullah Gul was decided by the majority - 7 justices, against 4 that dissented – including AKP appointed Chief justice Hasim Kilic.
