Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that the AKP would not ask for an extension to prepare its preliminary defense with regard to the lawsuit filed against the party in March. Recently Erdogan has been saying that both domestic and foreign legal minds had prepared a very good defense for the party, one that would "be taught in law schools everywhere".
According to media reports, later today three high ranking AKP officials filed the 126-pages-long preliminary defense document with the high court, one day before tomorrow’s deadline.
After the Chief Prosecutor states his views on the merits of the case, the AKP will make a verbal defense in a month's time. This will be followed by verbal statements of the Chief Prosecutor in response.
