At last night’s awards ceremony of the Cinema Actors Association, Turkish film makers and actors were presented with trophies. Two veteran actors, Kadir Inanir and Tarik Akan, who were awarded for their long-time contribution to cinema, took the stage together and made strong statements urging members of the film industry to organize and stand against sharia tendencies in Turkey. Tarik Akan said, “Kadir Inanir and I have given a long fight against Islamists and fascists and for this country to be ruled in a proper way. But we have aged already. I suggest that all of us stand together and say ‘no’ to Islamist, pro-sharia press and TV channels, and refuse to work for them”.
