The small, privately owned TV channel Kanalturk known to be the loudest anti-AKP broadcaster, had often been the target of AKP government. It is reported today that 99.99 per cent of Kanalturk’s shares have been purchased by Koza Davetiye that also owns the pro-AKP Turkish daily Bugun. Koza had formed a consortium with Europe’s largest commercial broadcaster RTL Group to bid for Turkey's second largest media group Sabah-ATV, during its sale by the government, but pulled out from the tender, leaving Calik group as the sole bidder.
PM Erdogan’s personal involvement in Sabah’s sale to Calik, the CEO of which is his son-in-law, is suspected.
