Man Beaten Up, Tortured By PM Erdogan’s Guards For His Criticism

Ertugrul Saglam, a 46 year old man from Antalya was dragged by PM Erdogan’s security guards into an official car and taken to a deserted location where he was beaten, tortured and threatened before he was left there. He said that he was blindfolded and tied in the car and was beaten for about two hours by four men who told him that they could easily implant guns or drugs on him and kill him. They also told him that they would take him away if they ever saw him again. Saglam said that they had unfolded his eyes before releasing him, at which time he made a mental record of the car’s plate numbers – which led to the car that is used by the security directorate of the prime minister’s office. The abduction and the beatings came during PM Erdogan’s visit in Antalya on May 11, after Saglam publicly criticized PM Erdogan and AKP’s new social security law, complaining that the new law had made workers needy. Saglam who was given one week of medical leave due to his injuries, filed legal complaint against the security guards and stated that he would be able to identify the four guards.
