With the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer break thousands of Turkish children have registered to Koran courses. Islamic foundations, associations and muftis all around the country are campaigning for all children to attend these courses and are offering financial assistance to those who live in poverty.
Islamist associations are emphasizing the importance of Koran studies in elevating the moral values in the country and in coping with the problems Turkey faces. Officials warn parents that “if they do not protect the children and teach them their religion rich Christian missionaries that come from the other side of the world and their local conspirators will use the children for their own goals and missions”.
