Maulana Fazlullah, the head of the Taliban in the Swat district of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province, has said that political and non-political personalities in Pakistan will not be targeted by the Taliban if they do not support the military operation, according to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang.
According to the report, Maulana Fazlullah made the announcement on his illegal FM radio station. He said that the decision was taken during a meeting of the Taliban’s Shura (consultative council).
The Pakistani Army has recently carried out operation against the Taliban militants in the Swat district of the NWFP. The elected lawmakers from the region of Swat have stayed up in Islamabad recently due to the Taliban threats, the report added.
