A renowned comedian of Pashtu drama and stage shows has announced he quit showbiz after he was kidnapped by unknown people, believed to be the Taliban, and mysteriously released three days later.
Alamzeb Mujahid, popularly known as Janann, says he has promised to Allah that he will quit showbiz, embrace His teachings, and become a Tablighi.
A Tablighi is a member of the Tablighi Jamaat, an Islamic revivalist group founded in the 1920s by Maulana Muhammad Ilyas. The group has its headquarters in New Delhi, the capital of India.
Alamzeb Mujahid did not disclose any information about his captors and their motives; and did not answer any questions in this regard.
In recent months, Taliban militants in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province have kidnapped artists and forced them to quit their ‘‘un-Islamic’’ professions.
