Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry has directed police personnel across the country to stay impartial during the upcoming presidential and provincial council elections, according to an Afghan news website.
Zemaray Bashari, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said police have been ordered to avoid sticking posters of the candidates on their stations and vehicles, according to a report on the news website quqnoos.com.
The spokesman warned that police personnel who do not stay impartial during elections will be punished.
The directive came after reports that campaign posters of both presidential and provincial council candidates have been glued on police stations and government buildings, mostly in eastern Afghanistan.
