Senior Pakistani politician Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, a former federal minister and chief of the Awami Muslim League party), escaped an assassination attempt on Monday, according to a Pakistani daily.
Fear gripped the residents of Rawalpindi after unknown assailants opened fire at the election office of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, according to a report in The News daily.
ββThe bullets hit the walls and doors of buildings adjacent to the office and people were seen crying on the occasion. Just after the firing incident all markets and shops in the area were closed,ββ the report added.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was brought to a hospital for treatment. A doctor at the hospital said that Ahmed sustained injuries from a fall and did not have any bullet wounds.
