The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association has urged the United Nations to stop India from carrying out “genocide” in Kashmir, according to an Indian website.
The Bar sent a memorandum to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to intervene and force the Indian government to desist from its “anti-people” policies in Jammu & Kashmir, according to the website Risingkashmir.com.
“The unabated spate of killings, especially of youth, is part of a genocide perpetuated by Indian forces to subjugate the will of the people of J & K fighting for the freedom of the state,’’ a memorandum of the Bar Association said, noting the killing of one Zahid Farooq on January 5 by Indian troops.
The association has received reports indicating that more than 500 young boys and pro-independence Hurriyat Conference members have been arrested and tortured in police stations, the memorandum added.
