Afghan Senate Condemns Richard Holbrooke’s Statement

The Afghan Senate has condemned a statement by U.S. Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke in which he said that every Pushtoon family has at least one member with Taliban links, according to a Dari-language daily.

In a statement, the senate said that Holbrooke’s comment is irresponsible and could have very negative consequences for the U.S. in Afghanistan, according to a report in the Dari-language newspaper Roznama Afghanistan.

The senate’s statement also noted that a large number of Arabs, Pakistanis, Uzbeks and Chechens are also members of the Taliban, adding that Pashtuns are suffering at the hands of the Taliban.
