Renowned Indian Cleric: All Kinds Of War, Including Guerrilla And Proxy Wars, Are Illegal In Islam Except In Self-Defense; Non-Governmental Organizations Cannot Raise A Sword

Renowned Indian cleric Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has said that the only type of war that is legal in Islam is war for self-defense, according to an Urdu-language daily.

Khan, who has authored more than a hundred books on Islam, said, “All kinds of war, including guerilla and proxy wars, are illegal in Islam,” according to the Urdu-language daily Roznama Rashtriya Sahara.

“As per Islamic law, only a state can wage a war. A non-government organization has no right to raise a sword,” he said while addressing a two-day international seminar on ‘‘Co-existence between Islam and other Indian religions’’ in New Delhi.

“One can protest peacefully if one has any complaint. Taking to arms for redressing complaints is certainly illegal in Islam,” he added.
