Former Indian President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on Wednesday called for a nationwide awareness campaign against terrorism and urged all political parties to come together to get rid of this menace, according to an Urdu-language daily.
“Terrorism is a curse for the nation. All political parties should come together and declare it as a menace for the nation... They should fight together to combat it,” Kalam said at the Fight Against Terrorism’ seminar organized by Mumbai Police.
According to a report in the Urdu-language daily Roznama Inquilab, he said: “There should be an aggressive national campaign to eradicate terrorism... Security agencies should maintain a high state of alert and a national campaign should be started to tackle the menace.”
The former president, who is popular among students, urged schools to take a pledge against terrorism, adding: “Public participation is very essential in the fight against terrorism...each and every individual should remain vigilant.”
