Sufi Leader: Time to Spread the Message of Sufism to New Generations

Prominent Indian Sufi leader Allama Syed Muhammad Jilani Ashraf Kichhauchhavi, now visiting Pakistan, has said the mystical Islamic movement of Sufism stands for peace and brotherhood in the face of hatred and violence. Syed Muhammad Jilani Ashraf Kichhauchhavi (pictured, in white beard) is the coordinator of the All India Sufi Federation.
The Urdu newspaper Roznama Jang quoted him as saying the mission of Sufism is to promote brotherhood, moderation, good conduct and service to others. He said, ‘‘This is the reason why different Sufi leaders taught the lessons of love, brotherhood, peace and unity in the face of enmity, hatred, violence and terror; and succeeded in attracting people to be their followers.’’
The Indian Sufi leader said spiritual, moral and ethical norms are declining in contemporary times and it is the time now to unite all Sufi leaders across South Asia to spread the message of Sufism to the new generations.
Allama Kichhauchhavi founded the All India Sufi Federation to promote peace and brotherhood following the October 2005 terrorist blasts at the shrine of South Asia’s 12th-century Sufi saint Khwaja Gharib Nawaz in the pilgrimage town of Ajmer. The organization stands for uniting millions of non-political Sufis with the objective of creating a peace corridor across India. [When the All India Sufi Federation was founded, there was a plan to bring together a large number of Sufi saints in small towns from Kashmir in the north to Kerala in the south and from Gujarat in the West to Bengal in the East.]
