Lashkar-e-Taiba: We Are Fighting Jihad in Kashmir, We are Not Behind Lahore Blasts
The banned Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba has said it is focused on waging jihad in Indian-administered Kashmir, and is not responsible for the March 11 blasts in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province. The Urdu newspaper Roznama Express quoted Lashkar-e-Taiba spokesman Abdullah Ghaznavi as saying his group is fighting for the liberation of Kashmir from India.
According to the report, the spokesman described as irresponsible the Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool’s statement that Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the blasts at the headquarters of the Federal Investigating Agency and in Model Town, both in Lahore. Lashkar-e-Taiba now operates under the name of Jamatud Dawa Pakistan after it was banned a few years ago.
According to the report, the spokesman said his group’s operations are limited in the Indian-administered Kashmir. He criticized the Punjab Governor’s statement, describing it as part of Pakistani moves such as ceasefire between India and Pakistan on the Line of Control in Kashmir, back-channel diplomacy for better relations, trade and cultural pacts and release of Indian spies.
