Pakistan-Based Militant Leader Pays Tribute to Militant Killed in Indian-Administered Kashmir
The leader of the Pakistan-based militant network Muttahida Jihad Council has paid tributes to militant commander Hafiz Hamza, who was killed in the Indian-administered Kashmir recently. The right-wing Urdu newspaper Roznama Jasarat reported that the Muttahida Jihad Council chairman Syed Salahuddin convened an emergency meeting of his followers in the town of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, where he paid tributes to Hafiz Hamza.
The Muttahida Jihad Council is a network of over a dozen militant organizations active in Indian-administered Kashmir and in Pakistan. Hafiz Hamza belonged to the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, now active under the new name of Jamatud Dawa Pakistan. According to the report, Muttahida Jihad Council chairman Syed Salahuddin noted that Hamza led the mujahideen in difficult circumstances and the mission of the ‘martyrs’ will be continued in Indian-administered Kashmir.
According to the report, Hamza was ‘martyred’ recently by the Indian security forces in the Baramulla district of Indian-administered Kashmir. Addressing the emergency meeting, Syed Salahuddin said, ‘‘Hamza was a brave and fearless commander who had been active against the Indian military for the past ten years. He not only participated in many operations against the Indian army but also proved to be a bold leader of the mujahideen in the [Kashmir] valley.’’
The Muttahida Jihad Council chairman added: ‘‘The best way to pay tribute to the martyrs [militants killed in Indian-administered Kashmir] is to carry forward their mission and continue the struggle until the liberation of the dearest nation [Kashmir from India].’’ He appealed to Kashmiri people to disregard the pro-Indian politicians and stand by the ‘martyrs.’
