At least eight militants have been killed during a 12-hour gun-battle in Indian-administered Kashmir. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Nawa-i-Waqt, two district-level commanders of militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad were among those killed.
Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad are Pakistan-based militant groups.
According to the report, the Indian security forces also arrested seven civilians for alleged links to militants following which the local people staged a demonstration. According to the report, the protesters shouted slogans in favor of Islam and Kashmir’s secession from India.
