The police chief in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has said that if the government failed to take action against the local Taliban, the provincial capital of Peshawar will soon be in their control. The Pakistani Taliban are also described as local Taliban.
The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted NWFP’s Inspector General of Police Malik Naved Khan as saying that Peshawar faces threats from the local Taliban’s activities in its vicinity.
According to the report, he said the only way to counter their activities was to create a 300,000-strong force comprising of youths to undertake developmental work in the tribal districts.
