Pakistani Leader: People See Taliban As An Alternative Leadership

Former Speaker of Pakistan’s Sindh Legislative Assembly Abdullah Husain Haroon has said the Taliban are finding growing acceptance among people in Pakistan and are being seen as an alternative to the country’s current leadership.

The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat quoted Haroon as saying that the common people, reeling under rising prices and joblessness, are increasingly looking to the Taliban as an alternative leadership option for the country.

According to the report, Haroon said there is an all-round atmosphere of hopelessness among people. He cited the example of how people have lost trust even in the Pakistani judiciary; whereas in the areas controlled by Taliban, people are getting justice in instantly set-up Shari’a courts.
