The Taliban have taken over the control of coal mines in the tribal area of Dar Adam Khel, some 40 kilometers south of Peshawar. The mines had been closed for three years over the issue of distribution of royalty between local tribes and the government.
According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq, 22 truckloads worth of coal was mined on the first day under the Taliban control. Five thousand people are employed in the coal mines in the area.
