According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, Major General Zahirul Islam has been as appointed to the post of Director General of the Political Cell of Pakistan’s powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The ISI’s Political Cell has far-reaching influence in shaping the course of Pakistani politics. According to the report, Army Chief General Ashfaq Kiyani is slated to effect wide-scale changes in the army’s top ranks as seven officers of the rank of Lieutenant General are set to retire early next month.
